Mohali, May 12: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has conducted a raid at the headquarters of the Punjab Vigilance Bureau in Mohali. This operation is linked to an alleged bribery case, intensifying the political discourse in the region. Congress MP Sukjinder Singh Randhawa expressed that for the first time, Punjabis are feeling ashamed. He highlighted the contradiction between Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s claims of a zero-tolerance policy against corruption and the current situation.
Randhawa stated, “In my opinion, this is the first time in Indian history that the Vigilance Department’s main office, which claims to work tirelessly against corruption, is itself under investigation.”
He added that today marks a shameful moment for Punjabis. Despite the Chief Minister’s assertions of a zero-tolerance stance on corruption, the Vigilance Department, which operates under his administration, is reportedly involved in blatant corrupt practices. This situation is both embarrassing and unfortunate.
The Congress MP further criticized the Vigilance Bureau, stating that it has transformed from an agency meant to investigate corruption into a hub for extortion. Officials and political figures are allegedly intimidating innocent citizens to extract money. According to Randhawa, the Vigilance Department has become an extortion center for gangsters in Punjab.
He urged the Chief Minister to explain how he can claim zero tolerance against corruption when his own department has become a stronghold of looting and corruption. The people of Punjab can no longer tolerate this corrupt and deceitful political landscape.
