Washington, May 13: President Donald Trump has indicated that a potential agreement between Russia and Ukraine is now looking increasingly likely. He expressed hope that the long-standing conflict could soon be moving towards resolution.
Speaking to reporters before departing on Marine One, Trump noted that progress is being made in ongoing discussions between the two nations. However, he did not provide specific details about any major agreements or successes.
When asked about discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Trump stated, “I truly believe the end of the war in Ukraine is very close.”
Later, Trump maintained a positive outlook regarding the Russia-Ukraine peace talks. He remarked, “This war is moving towards a solution. Whether people believe it or not, an agreement seems to be on the horizon. We believe that ultimately, some form of agreement will be reached between Russia and Ukraine.”
Trump also dismissed reports suggesting that an agreement had been reached regarding the Donbas region with Russian President Vladimir Putin. When questioned if the entire Donbas should be ceded to Russia, he firmly replied, “No, absolutely not.”
The U.S. President further stated that he is prepared to do “whatever it takes” to end the war.
Trump made these remarks ahead of his trip to China, where he is expected to meet with President Xi Jinping. He hinted that discussions could cover various international issues, including the Ukraine conflict.
Trump believes that reducing global tensions will benefit the world economy, particularly impacting oil prices and inflation. He stated, “As soon as this war ends, we will see a drop in oil prices.”
The war between Russia and Ukraine has devastated large parts of Ukraine for over four years. It has also affected energy, food supply, and security systems worldwide. This has led many countries to continuously strive to bring both sides to the negotiating table.
Meanwhile, Western nations have pressured India, as the country has been purchasing discounted crude oil from Russia since the war began. However, India has also increased energy and defense cooperation with the U.S. and European countries while maintaining its longstanding strategic ties with Russia.
