Washington, May 13: Ahead of his trip to China, U.S. President Donald Trump praised his relationship with President Xi Jinping, expressing optimism for productive meetings during his visit. This statement is significant amidst rising tensions related to the Iran crisis, global trade, and energy security.
Before departing for China, Trump spoke to the media, stating that the U.S. and China are the two largest powers in the world, and their relationship is “strong and stable.” He remarked, “My relationship with President Xi Jinping is fantastic. We have always gotten along well, and working with China has been great.”
Trump indicated that trade will be the primary focus of the summit. He noted, “We have significant ties with China. We are both superpowers, and there are many important issues to discuss, with a major emphasis on trade.”
The U.S. President also revealed that Xi Jinping may visit the United States later this year, calling it an exciting prospect.
Regarding the Iran crisis, Trump mentioned China’s potential role, stating that if Xi can assist, it would be welcomed. However, he asserted that the U.S. is fully controlling the situation. He added, “Iran has become militarily weakened. They will either choose the right path, or we will take care of the rest.”
Trump described U.S.-China economic relations as mutually beneficial, saying, “We conduct significant trade with China. Both countries benefit from this relationship.”
He emphasized that the purpose of his visit extends beyond trade, highlighting its importance for global strategic balance. Trump characterized the U.S. as the world’s strongest military power, with China recognized as the second most powerful nation.
Notably, in recent years, U.S.-China relations have faced disagreements over trade, technology, Taiwan, supply chains, and the Indo-Pacific region. Despite these challenges, both countries have maintained high-level diplomatic contacts to prevent further tensions.
