Indian Boxers Shine at the 2026 Asian Under-17 Boxing Championship

Tashkent, May 12: The 2026 Asian Under-17 Boxing Championship has proven to be a challenging day for Indian male boxers. Only Lakshya Fogat has made it to the finals, while four others secured bronze medals after the semifinals held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

In the 75 kg category, Lakshya Fogat delivered an impressive performance, defeating Korea’s Seungmin Lee with a unanimous 5:0 decision to secure his place in the finals. In other semifinal matches, Narendra Nela (46 kg) lost to Uzbekistan’s Abdulloh Nuraliyev with a score of 0:5.

Yash Yadav (50 kg) faced a defeat against Mongolia’s Suld Usukhbatar, losing 1:4, while Nivesh Pal (54 kg) was defeated by Uzbekistan’s Abdulbosit Yursunboev with a score of 0:5. In another closely contested match, Naman (70 kg) lost 2:3 to Uzbekistan’s Abduvohid Abdumjidov.

With one finalist and four bronze medals, the Indian Under-17 boys’ team aims to finish the competition on a high note.

Meanwhile, the Indian Under-17 girls have continued their outstanding performance, with eight boxers reaching the finals. Following the semifinals, four boxers also earned bronze medals.

Rakhi (46 kg) led the team with a remarkable victory against China’s Yating Zhang, winning by RSC in the third round. In the 48 kg category, Khushi Chand achieved a stunning 5:0 victory over Mongolia’s Mungunjul Altamgadasa.

In the 52 kg category, Mamta Murali Raut lost 0:5 to China’s Yaxin Qiu, while Lakshmi Manjunath Lamani (54 kg) was defeated by Uzbekistan’s Kumariniso Muhammadoeva, losing 1:4. Navya (kg) secured her spot in the finals with an RSC victory against Mongolia’s Dagima Chulutumur in the second round. Ishika narrowly lost 2:3 to Kazakhstan’s Balim Gabitkizi in the 60 kg category. Diya (63 kg) recorded a fantastic RSC win against Taiwan’s Jia-An Song in the first round.

In the 66 kg category, Harnoor Kaur lost 0:5 to Kazakhstan’s Ayoulim Ospanova. Himanshi (70 kg) won by RSC against Jordan’s Jude Habib in the first round. Jyoti secured her place in the next round with an RSC victory over Taiwan’s Cheng-Hui Ju in the 75 kg category. Vanshika (80 kg) achieved a solid 4:1 victory against Uzbekistan’s Feruzabonu Kamolova.

With eight finalists confirmed, the Indian female boxers will strive to increase their gold medal tally at the championship.
