Punjab Government to Implement Reservation Policy for Agniveers in State Jobs

Chandigarh, May 12: The Punjab government has announced its decision to create a reservation policy for Agniveers completing their tenure under the Agnipath scheme. This initiative aims to facilitate the reintegration of these young individuals into state government jobs.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has established a high-level committee comprising civil and police officials to finalize the framework and procedures for providing reservation benefits to Agniveers. An official statement quoted the Chief Minister, who emphasized the need for timely completion of the policy framework. This will ensure that these trained and disciplined youths become integral to the state’s social and economic development.

The committee will develop a comprehensive outline for the reservation policy to ensure meaningful rehabilitation of Agniveers returning from service, allowing their skills to contribute to Punjab’s progress. It will also prepare recommendations for the reservation and recruitment of Agniveers across various departments.

Highlighting the capabilities of Agniveers, Chief Minister Mann noted their effective utilization in Punjab Police, Forest Department, Fire Services, Prisons, Home Guards, Punjab Ex-Servicemen Corporation, and several other government sectors. He stressed the importance of finalizing the reservation and selection criteria as soon as possible to make the best use of these highly skilled and disciplined youths.

The Chief Minister further stated that Punjab has historically played a significant role in safeguarding the unity and integrity of the nation.
