Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia to Visit Sikkim for Statehood Day Celebrations

New Delhi, May 14: Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia will embark on an official visit to Sikkim from May 14 to 16. This trip coincides with the celebrations for Sikkim’s Statehood Day.

In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision and guidance, the number of accompanying officials, staff, and vehicles has been minimized to essential levels. This decision reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to frugality, efficiency, and responsible public spending.

During the Statehood Day celebrations in Gangtok, Scindia will join Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, who will lay the foundation stones and inaugurate various development projects under the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region. Notably, this includes Sikkim’s flagship organic farming initiative.

Throughout his visit, the minister will participate in several programs related to development, tourism, education, and agriculture in Namchi, Ravangla, Yangang, and Gangtok. Events will include visits to Sikkim University, Temi Tea Garden, Buddha Park, the Bhale Dunga Skywalk project, and the Nathu La-based NESIDS-OTRI project, along with attending the Statehood Day celebrations.

It is noteworthy that the Prime Minister had urged citizens to reduce fuel consumption and increase the use of public transport options like metros, carpooling, and electric vehicles. He also encouraged prioritizing domestic travel over purchasing gold and international trips.

Previously, the number of vehicles in Prime Minister Modi’s convoy was significantly reduced. This decision aligns with his appeal for energy conservation. Despite the reduction, all necessary security measures under SPG protocol remain fully intact. A video released on Wednesday showed a notably smaller convoy, consisting of only a few vehicles.
