Transforming Uttar Pradesh Police: A Report on Achievements and Future Plans

Lucknow, June 1: The Director General of Police (DGP) of Uttar Pradesh, Rajeev Krishna, announced that there has been a significant reduction in crime over the past seven to eight years. This decline is attributed to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s zero-tolerance policy, which has led to consistent and effective actions against criminals. Initiatives like Mission Shakti, cybercrime control, artificial intelligence-based policing, and road safety campaigns have further strengthened law and order in the state.

During a press conference on Monday, DGP Rajeev Krishna reviewed the achievements of the past year. He stated that advanced training will be provided to the police force, and a state-of-the-art cyber center will be established at the central level to enhance cybersecurity at police headquarters. In alignment with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s priorities, the Uttar Pradesh Police has made significant strides in crime control, women’s safety, law enforcement, cybercrime prevention, technology-based policing, and police welfare over the past year.

Krishna highlighted ten key priorities set after he assumed office, which aimed to make policing more accountable, technology-enabled, and citizen-centric. According to the DGP, Operation Conviction has recorded a conviction rate of over 93% in the state. Courts delivered verdicts in 32,071 cases over the year, with 29,911 resulting in convictions. A total of 42,681 accused individuals received sentences, including 18 death penalties and 3,340 life sentences.

He noted that action was taken against 5,684 criminals under the Gangster Act, with assets worth approximately ₹788 crores seized. Additionally, campaigns against mafia and organized crime led to the seizure, demolition, or recovery of illegal properties valued at over ₹336 crores.

Rajeev Krishna stated that the establishment of Mission Shakti centers for women’s safety has yielded positive results. Approximately 13,500 police personnel have been deployed to operate these centers across all police stations. Following the establishment of these centers, there has been a notable decrease in cases of rape, kidnapping of women and girls, dowry deaths, and domestic violence.

Highlighting achievements in cybercrime control, the DGP mentioned that the capacity of the cybercrime call center in Kalli Paschim, Lucknow, has been increased from 20 to 80 seats, with plans to expand it to 200 seats. More than ₹400 crores in suspicious funds have been frozen through the National Cyber Crime Portal, while 1.11 lakh mobile numbers and 1.22 lakh IMEIs have been blocked.

In terms of cyber training, Uttar Pradesh has ranked first in the country. Over 65,000 police personnel have been trained through the I4C’s Cyber Train portal. The next phase includes establishing a central advanced cyber center at police headquarters, where specialized training programs in modern cybersecurity, digital forensics, and cyber investigations will be conducted.

Discussing technology-based policing, the DGP noted that the AI-based ‘Yaksh’ app launched by the Chief Minister in December 2025 has provided police with new capabilities in identifying criminals, gang analysis, beat monitoring, and investigating complex cases. He reported a 7.43% reduction in road accidents and an 11.55% decrease in fatalities in the first quarter of 2026 due to the ‘Zero Fatality District’ initiative, which has successfully saved approximately 450 lives.

Looking ahead, the DGP emphasized the importance of effectively implementing the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Indian Citizen Security Code (ICSC), and Indian Evidence Act (IEA). Strengthening financial and technology-based investigations to dismantle organized crime, mafia networks, and associated white-collar criminals will also be prioritized.

He concluded by stating that the goal of the Uttar Pradesh Police extends beyond merely arresting criminals. It aims to decisively target illegal assets acquired through crime, hawala networks, shell companies, and economic systems to ensure a safe, fear-free, and just environment in the state.
