Patna, June 1: The controversy surrounding the eviction of former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi from her official residence shows no signs of abating. On Monday, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) targeted the government, claiming that Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary’s residence is even larger than the Prime Minister’s bungalow.
During a press conference at the RJD office, party General Secretary Abdul Bari Siddiqui stated that the residence of the Chief Minister of the country’s poorest state resembles a luxurious, seven-star mansion. He pointed out that CM Samrat Chaudhary’s bungalow is bigger than that of the Prime Minister. Furthermore, Chaudhary has merged the residence allocated to the former Deputy Chief Minister, located at 5, Desh Ratna Marg, into his own. He has also taken a Type-8 bungalow in Delhi instead of the Bihar Niwas and Bihar Bhawan, expanding his residence to over 15 acres.
Siddiqui noted that while there were two residences previously allocated for the Deputy Chief Minister, Samrat Chaudhary has unfairly incorporated one of them into his own residence. He questioned why Deputy Chief Ministers Vijay Chaudhary and Vijendra Yadav have not been moved to the designated Deputy Chief Minister’s residence if CM Samrat Chaudhary is so committed to following rules and regulations.
He further criticized the government for its treatment of Rabri Devi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Council and a former Chief Minister, questioning the biased and hostile behavior exhibited towards her. Siddiqui accused the government of operating out of jealousy and animosity.
He posed several questions to CM Samrat Chaudhary regarding the allocation of government residences. He stated, “If Samrat Chaudhary continues with such spiteful and low-level politics, the RJD will return their residence and security to him so he can use them for himself.”
This press conference was also addressed by State President Mangni Lal Mandal and the National President of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Cell, Shivchandra Ram. It is noteworthy that the government has issued an eviction notice to former Chief Minister Rabri Devi for 10 Circular Road, offering her a new residence at 39 Harding Road. However, Rabri Devi has refused to vacate the Circular Road bungalow.
Meanwhile, the Patna district administration has requested RJD leader Rabri Devi to shift to the newly allocated residence at 39 Harding Road. The administration has given her a 15-day deadline, after which legal action may be pursued.
