Ranchi, June 1: Employees at Jharkhand’s largest medical college and hospital, Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), have launched protests due to months of unpaid salaries. On Monday, they gathered in front of the director’s office to voice their grievances.
Nursing and paramedical staff chanted slogans against the RIMS management, demanding immediate salary payments and solutions to issues related to the Old Pension Scheme (OPS). Protesters reported that they have not received their salaries for the past three months, leading to severe financial distress.
Over 1,500 permanent staff members are affected by this situation. Employees stated that the lack of salary has made it challenging to manage household expenses, pay children’s school fees, and meet bank loan installments. They clarified that they have not yet resorted to a work boycott, ensuring that essential services and ward staffing continue for patient care.
Protesters expressed frustration, stating they have repeatedly brought their demands to management’s attention, but no concrete solutions have emerged. They also alleged that several first-year junior doctors at RIMS have not received their stipends for nearly six months.
In addition to salary payments, employees are demanding the effective implementation of the Old Pension Scheme and resolution of related discrepancies. They noted that while assurances have been given, there has been no significant improvement in their situation. During the protest, employees warned that if their demands are not addressed promptly, they may escalate their movement.
