Mumbai, February 13: Congress leader Bhai Jagatap has stated that Rahul Gandhi remained in the spotlight due to his remarks on a defense-related issue concerning former Army Chief General Naravane’s book.

In a conversation in Mumbai, Jagatap pointed out that Naravane retired in 2022 and that the book was published in 2024, meaning he was not the Army Chief at that time. “I believe the content of the book is what Rahul Gandhi was addressing in Parliament. However, the government did not allow him to speak,” he remarked.

Regarding the ongoing controversy over “Vande Mataram,” Jagatap noted that both “Jana Gana Mana” and “Vande Mataram” are played in the assembly, but not all six stanzas are performed. “Only two to three stanzas are played, and both songs are dedicated to the nation. As for the stanzas played in government offices, I am unsure how that will be designed or decided. However, any national anthem or song should be dedicated to the people and the nation, and it should not hurt anyone’s sentiments,” he added.

On the condition of Mumbai’s roads, Jagatap expressed that the Coastal Road project is beneficial for the city and the country. “Why can’t all roads be built this way? If all of Mumbai’s roads were constructed like this and accompanied by music, it would be great. However, February is here, and after the first rain, the condition of Mumbai deteriorates, revealing potholes after just one downpour. The corruption becomes evident after a single rain, not just in Mumbai but across the entire state. New roads are often dug up within a month. Concrete and asphalt are removed and discarded. Therefore, first, build the roads properly, and then implement such projects. It is essential that taxpayers and citizens receive basic necessities, whether it’s roads, water, or healthcare. Prioritize these essentials before focusing on other matters.”

When asked about the India-Pakistan match, Jagatap reiterated that their stance remains unchanged. “World Cup events are global matters; they are not just between India and Pakistan. I have previously stated that whether it’s sports, culture, music, or art, these should be viewed above politics,” he concluded.
