Tragic Cylinder Blast Claims Four Lives in Chhattisgarh Family

Raipur, May 13: A devastating domestic gas cylinder explosion in Durg district, Chhattisgarh, has resulted in the tragic deaths of four family members, including a one-and-a-half-year-old girl.

The incident occurred on Tuesday in Ward Number Four of the Kumhari area, leaving the community in mourning.

According to police officials, the explosion took place suddenly inside a house, creating a fire so intense that it engulfed the home almost immediately.

Eyewitnesses reported that the flames spread rapidly, preventing anyone inside from escaping. Neighbors attempted to help, but the fierce blaze made it impossible for them to enter.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai announced an additional aid of ₹5 lakh for the victims’ families, separate from the ₹4 lakh provided under government regulations.

Expressing his sorrow on social media, the Chief Minister described the loss of four family members due to a short circuit and cylinder explosion in Kumhari as extremely tragic. He extended his condolences to the grieving family.

He also mentioned that arrangements for housing and other essential facilities for the affected families are being made, and an investigation into the incident has been ordered.

Following the incident, police and fire department teams arrived at the scene. After extinguishing the fire, they recovered four bodies from inside the house.

The deceased have been identified as 45-year-old Anil Vaishnav, 18-year-old Vaishnav, 20-year-old Lakshmi Vaishnav, and the young girl, Gopika.

Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the explosion, including checking for any technical faults in the gas connection.

Senior administrative officials and local leaders have expressed their condolences and visited the site.

Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, Education Minister Gajendra Yadav, and MP Vijay Baghel have acknowledged the incident.

The government has also announced financial assistance for the families of the deceased. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, while the entire village remains in shock from this heartbreaking event.
