Telangana Ministers Son Served Notice in POCSO Case

Hyderabad, May 13: The Cyberabad police in Telangana have issued a notice to Bandhi Bhagirath, son of Union Minister Bandhi Sanjay Kumar, in connection with a POCSO case. This case was registered four days ago.

Bhagirath has been summoned to appear before the police on Wednesday afternoon. He is instructed to report to the Pet Bashirabad police station at 2 PM, where the case against him was filed on May 8.

The notice was delivered to Bandhi Sanjay’s residence in Karimnagar. Bhagirath was not home at the time, so the notice was handed to family members.

The notice warns that failure to comply could lead to legal action against Bhagirath. The case was registered under the POCSO Act, accusing him of alleged sexual harassment of a 17-year-old girl based on a complaint from the victim’s mother.

Just hours earlier, Bhagirath had filed a complaint at the Karimnagar II Town police station against the girl and her parents. He alleged that they attempted to trap him in a honey trap and demanded ₹5 crores in exchange for not filing a police complaint.

Following his complaint, the police registered a case against the girl and her parents for extortion, criminal intimidation, criminal conspiracy, and related charges.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy directed the Director General of Police (DGP) C.V. Anand to initiate an immediate investigation into the POCSO case. The DGP was instructed to form special teams for a thorough inquiry.

In response to the Chief Minister’s orders, the Cyberabad Police Commissioner tasked Deputy Commissioner of Police Rithiraj with personally overseeing the investigation. The DCP visited the Pet Bashirabad police station on Monday to review the inquiry. He noted that the victim’s statement had been recorded, but additional information was still needed.

He indicated that the accused is currently at large, and the police are actively trying to locate him for arrest. They are examining the accused’s call detail records to gather more information.

Meanwhile, Bhagirath has approached the Telangana High Court for interim bail. Due to summer vacations, this petition has been filed with the vacation bench, which will hear the case on May 14.

Bandhi Sanjay has denied the allegations against his son, claiming that political opponents are making false accusations to tarnish their reputation. Speaking at a ‘Hindu Unity’ rally in Karimnagar on Tuesday, he stated that his son denies any wrongdoing.

He added, “If my son has made a mistake, he should be punished. However, he insists that he has done nothing wrong. There is an attempt to portray him as a criminal.”
