Former Uttarakhand CM Praises Decision to Cancel NEET Exam

Dehradun, May 13: Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal has expressed his concerns regarding the impact of the NEET exam cancellation on students and the examination system.

In an interview with a news agency, Pokhriyal, also known as Nishank, stated, “The government has made a significant and commendable decision by canceling the NEET exam. This is a matter concerning the future of nearly 2.3 million students. Had the exam not been canceled, it would have betrayed those students who worked hard with integrity. The paper leak incident in Rajasthan has come to light, and those attempting to exploit fake question papers will undoubtedly be caught and face consequences.”

Responding to Prime Minister Modi’s appeal to citizens to conserve fuel and avoid gold purchases, Pokhriyal remarked, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech is in the interest of the nation, and its effects can be seen far and wide. Whenever the country has faced a crisis, whether during wars or operations like Sindoor, the Prime Minister has called upon the nation, and the entire country has stood united.”

It is noteworthy that several questions from the NEET exam were reported to have leaked prior to the test. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will now investigate the entire matter. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the cancellation of the NEET (UG) 2026 exam, which took place on May 3, and plans to conduct the exam again. This year, approximately 2.3 million candidates participated. The decision was made with the approval of the Indian government.

According to the NTA, issues related to the exam were forwarded to central agencies for independent investigation and necessary action on May 8. The NTA stated that it reviewed reports and facts received from central agencies and law enforcement bodies. Based on the findings, it was determined that maintaining the current examination process would not be appropriate. Given the circumstances, the NTA deemed it essential to conduct the NEET exam again to uphold the transparency, fairness, and reliability of the national examination system.
