
Guwahati, May 13: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took the oath of office for the second consecutive time in a grand ceremony held in Guwahati. The event was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers, Chief Ministers from various states, and senior leaders from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) across the country.
The oath-taking ceremony, hosted at the Khanapara Veterinary College ground, was described by the state government as the largest political gathering in Northeast India to date.
Alongside Sarma, senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), including Rameshwar Teli and Ajanta Neog, as well as leaders from two alliance partners, Atul Bora of the Assam Gana Parishad and MLA Charan Boro of the Bodoland People’s Front, also took their oaths as ministers in the new cabinet.
The event saw the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Assam Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, and BJP state president Nitin Naveen, along with several senior NDA leaders.
According to an official statement, the ceremony was attended by 20 Chief Ministers, 18 Deputy Chief Ministers, 11 Union Cabinet Ministers, and two Ministers of State, making it one of the largest assemblies of political leadership in the region.
Chief Ministers from various states, including Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Meghalaya, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and West Bengal, participated in the event.
The state government noted that the large turnout reflected Assam’s growing political and strategic importance on the national stage.
Prominent figures from sports, culture, and religious sectors were also present during the ceremony. Arjuna Award winners, Padma Bhushan recipients, and various notable personalities from across Assam joined thousands of attendees at the event.
This ceremony marked the formal beginning of the NDA government’s third consecutive term in Assam.
