Moscow, May 13: The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on Tuesday that military actions under the ‘special military operation’ continue following the end of the ceasefire with Ukraine.
Moscow accused Kyiv of violating the ceasefire 30,383 times during the truce period. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the Russian forces adhered to the ceasefire, remaining in their designated positions from midnight on May 8 until midnight on May 11.
State news agency TASS reported that during the ceasefire, Ukraine launched 859 attacks on Russian positions, utilizing rocket launchers, artillery, and mortars. Additionally, there were 5,825 drone attacks.
The ministry stated that Russian forces responded to these assaults, targeting Ukrainian rocket launchers, artillery, mortar positions, and drone launch sites.
On Tuesday, Dmitry Peskov, press secretary for the Russian President, mentioned that significant progress has been made towards a peace agreement in Ukraine. However, it is premature to discuss any specific dates or goals.
He noted that substantial work has been done in the peace process, suggesting that a resolution may be near, but no definitive statements can be made at this time.
The Russian Defense Ministry had previously announced a ceasefire from midnight on May 8 to May 10, coinciding with the 81st anniversary of the Soviet Union’s victory in World War II.
The ministry stated, “In accordance with the order of the President of the Russian Federation and Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Vladimir Putin, a ceasefire is declared from midnight on May 8 to May 10 to commemorate the 81st anniversary of the Great Patriotic War victory.”
