Beijing, May 12: Han Cheng, the Vice President of China, participated in the inaugural ceremony of the World Digital Education Conference 2026 held in Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang province.
In his address, Han Cheng highlighted the rapid development of digital technologies, particularly artificial intelligence (AI). He emphasized that President Xi Jinping places significant importance on the profound impact of AI in the education sector. Furthermore, he stressed the need for widespread education in AI across all educational levels and society to cultivate high-quality talent.
Han noted that in recent years, China has been actively advancing its national digital education strategy. The integration of digital technology is accelerating changes within the education system. China is sharing high-quality digital educational resources with students worldwide and promoting collaboration to build a more equitable, inclusive, and sustainable global digital education ecosystem.
He also remarked that the integration of AI and other digital technologies into education presents a significant opportunity for global educational development, while also posing shared challenges.
Han expressed China’s readiness to collaborate with all countries to enhance the development of digital education, improve governance models, and establish relevant regulations and standards to foster innovation and improvement in digital education.
The opening ceremony featured a video message from Guy Parmelin, the Federal President of Switzerland and head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research. Khalid Al-Anani, the Director-General of UNESCO, was also present and delivered a speech.
