Major Police Operation in Pulwama: Illegal Timber Seized with Forest Departments Help

Pulwama, May 3: In a significant operation against illegal timber smuggling, police in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir thwarted another attempt on May 3. Authorities seized a large quantity of timber, including six wooden beams and seven raw logs.

The operation was initiated following intelligence reports indicating that an individual had concealed illegal timber in his makeshift house in the Sangrwani area. Acting on this information, a team from the Sangrwani police post conducted a raid, with officials from the Forest Department also present to ensure a thorough investigation.

The timber was recovered from the residence of the accused, Liaqat Ahmad Doi, a resident of Sonabazar. According to police, the wood had been illegally cut from the forest and hidden for sale, but the timely intervention of law enforcement prevented the smuggling attempt.

The seized timber has been handed over to the Forest Department for further action. An FIR has been registered against the accused under Section 303(2) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 26 of the Forest Act. The police are currently investigating the case.

Police officials stated that such activities not only harm forests but also have a severe impact on environmental balance. Therefore, strict actions are being taken in these cases, and the campaign will continue.

Senior officials emphasized that Pulwama police are committed to taking stringent action against individuals involved in activities that damage natural resources and disrupt ecological balance. They also urged the public to report any instances of illegal timber cutting or smuggling immediately.
