Putin Suggests End of Ukraine Conflict May Be Near Amid Ongoing Tensions

Moscow, May 30: Russian President Vladimir Putin stated on Friday that the conditions on the battlefield indicate that the conflict in Ukraine may be nearing its end. This remark comes in the wake of Ukraine’s intense attacks targeting Russian students, prompting a retaliatory response from Russia.

According to a report from the Russian state news agency TASS, President Putin remarked, “The situation on the battlefield is developing in such a way that we have the right to say that conditions are coming to an end.”

He cautioned against specifying a timeline for the end of the fighting in Ukraine, labeling it as reckless. Responding to journalists’ inquiries, Putin said, “Regarding the timeline, I believe you and my other colleagues understand my answer. It is impossible to provide a specific timeframe during the conflict. Not only is it irresponsible, but it is also practically never done, and I will not do it.”

Putin affirmed that Russia is ready to continue negotiations with Ukraine and has never refused to engage in talks. He stated, “We have never said no to negotiations. We have not stopped them; we are ready to continue.”

He noted that while some contacts remain, no substantial discussions are currently taking place. According to the Russian president, all areas that pose a direct military threat to Russia are legitimate military targets.

He accused the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) of deceiving Russia by claiming it would not advance eastward. He added, “The tragic events occurring in Ukraine are the result of their (EU countries’) policies. They orchestrated the coup in Kyiv in 2014, which necessitated Russia to protect the people of Crimea. I will not delve into details; I have stated this many times, that we needed to assist the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics, which we had long recognized.”

Meanwhile, a diplomatic source reported that representatives from European countries are engaged in informal talks in London to resolve the Ukrainian conflict.

The source stated, “Informal discussions regarding Ukraine are taking place today in London among European nations. They are addressing the need for an agreement with Russia, the ban system, and other issues.”
