New Delhi, May 30: The Secretary of the National Commission for Minorities (NCM), Alka Upadhyay, unveiled a study on the contribution of the Jain community to education on Friday. Upadhyay stated that this research reflects the NCM’s ongoing efforts towards inclusive development and informed policy-making.
She emphasized the commission’s commitment to research-based policy suggestions and evidence-driven initiatives aimed at the welfare and empowerment of minority communities.
Conducted by the Socio-Economic and Educational Development Society (SEEDS), the study documents the historical development, institutional contributions, and educational philosophy of the Jain community in India.
According to a statement, the research highlights the role of Jain trusts, philanthropists, educational institutions, and community organizations in promoting education, research, scholarships, value-based education, and inclusive access to education.
The report underscores that the Jain community has contributed not only to academic advancement but also to social responsibility and nation-building through education.
Inspired by values such as knowledge, service, compassion, and inclusivity, Jain educational initiatives have enriched India’s educational and moral landscape.
The statement noted that this study will serve as a valuable reference for policymakers, researchers, educational institutions, and community organizations working on minority education, value-based education, and community-led educational development models.
Earlier, the NCM celebrated Minority Day, inviting community leaders from six minority groups—Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Jains, and Parsis—to participate.
Dr. Michael V. Williams, a guest speaker from Mount Carmel School, reminded the assembly of the significance of Minority Day and highlighted the long-standing yet silent contributions of the Christian community through educational and healthcare institutions, which serve beyond communal boundaries.
