T20 Champions Trophy for Deaf 2026: Players Selection for World Cup Announced

New Delhi, May 30: The coach of the Indian National Deaf Cricket Team, Sushil Gupta, announced during the finals of the T20 Champions Trophy for Deaf 2026 that players will be selected for the World Cup based on their performance in this tournament.

Speaking to reporters, Gupta stated, “Four teams—India A, B, C, and D—selected from across the country are participating in this tournament under the Indian Deaf Cricket Association (IDCA). The performance of the players in these matches will determine their selection for the World Cup. After the league matches, India A and D teams have reached the finals. This is a crucial opportunity for young players. Regular domestic matches are also used to identify players who excel.”

Devdutt Baghel, head coach of the Indian National Deaf Cricket Team, added, “Our teams A, B, C, and D have been formed based on a structure similar to that of the Delhi Trophy. The Deaf Cricket Association has initiated a plan to select talented players from every state and provide them the chance to play in these teams. Players who perform well here will be shortlisted for the World Cup in October. A list of the top 15 players will be compiled from this tournament.”

Physiotherapist Dr. Mayank Pushkar mentioned, “Under the IDCA, a tournament featuring four teams is being held, with two teams reaching the finals. Future selections for the Indian team will be made from these players. Our main role is to ensure that players do not sustain any injuries. We also provide rehabilitation and proper care to keep them injury-free. If a player does get injured, we treat them and assist in their recovery. This is our team’s primary responsibility.”
