New Chandigarh, May 30: Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the opening batsman for Rajasthan Royals (RR), has etched his name in the record books during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. The 15-year-old has become the first player to score over 500 runs in the powerplay (1-6 overs) in a single season.
In 16 innings of IPL 2026, Suryavanshi amassed 521 runs at an astonishing strike rate of 233.63 during the powerplay. He surpassed David Warner, who previously held the second spot with 467 runs scored in the powerplay in 2016. Travis Head and Sai Sudharsan both scored 402 runs in the powerplay in 2024 and 2025, respectively, while Adam Gilchrist had 382 runs in the powerplay during IPL 2009.
On Friday, at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Suryavanshi faced 47 balls against Gujarat Titans, scoring 96 runs with 7 sixes and 8 fours. His performance helped Rajasthan Royals post a total of 214 runs, losing 6 wickets.
Additionally, Suryavanshi has now joined the ranks of players who have reached 1,000 runs in the fewest innings in IPL history, sitting jointly in second place. He shares this position with Lendl Simmons, who also achieved this milestone in 23 innings. The record is held by Shaun Marsh, who completed 1,000 runs in just 21 innings.
This season, Suryavanshi has scored a total of 776 runs, placing him fifth on the list of most runs in a single IPL season. The record is held by Virat Kohli, who scored 973 runs for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2016. Following him are Shubman Gill (890 runs), Jos Buttler (863 runs), and David Warner (848 runs).
