Washington, May 29: President Donald Trump announced on Friday that he is preparing to make a final decision regarding a potential agreement with Iran. This deal would include specific conditions, such as Tehran’s commitment to never pursue nuclear weapons and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
In a social media post, Trump stated that Iran must adhere to permanent restrictions on nuclear weapons under the proposed arrangement. He emphasized, “Iran must accept that they will never have nuclear weapons or bombs.”
Trump also highlighted the importance of the Strait of Hormuz as a critical shipping route for global energy supply, insisting it should be reopened immediately. He claimed that mines are being removed from the waterways and that shipping, which had been stalled due to the U.S. Navy’s blockade, will soon resume.
He wrote, “Due to our tremendous and unprecedented naval blockade, ships trapped in the Strait can now begin the process of ‘coming home!’”
According to Trump, U.S. forces have already removed several mines, and Iran is expected to complete the removal or destruction of any remaining devices.
The president’s statement also addressed Iran’s nuclear program. He claimed that enriched nuclear material buried underground would be destroyed following a U.S. military strike approximately one year ago.
He noted, “The enriched material, sometimes referred to as ‘nuclear dust,’ is buried beneath collapsed mountains due to our powerful B2 bomber attack 11 months ago, and the U.S. will excavate it.”
Trump asserted that this operation would be conducted in cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency, and it would be eliminated.
He clarified that no financial transfers would occur under this arrangement, stating, “There will be no money transactions until further notice.”
He added that “agreement has been reached on other items that are much less critical.” However, Trump did not provide any details about the status of negotiations or whether Iranian officials have formally accepted his proposed conditions. He concluded his statement by mentioning that he would meet in the White House Situation Room to “make the final decision.”
Any agreement related to the Strait of Hormuz will be closely monitored by governments and energy markets, as this waterway plays a vital role in transporting a significant portion of the world’s oil and natural gas supply.
For India, developments in the Gulf are particularly significant. The country imports a large portion of its crude oil needs from this region, and disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz have already raised concerns about energy security, shipping costs, and inflationary pressures.
