
Bhopal, May 30: The Water Ganga Conservation Campaign is underway in Madhya Pradesh, focusing on the preservation and enhancement of water structures. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced that this initiative has evolved into a people’s movement.
CM Yadav emphasized that water is the essence of life, and preserving our traditional water structures is a vital social and environmental duty. Launched with this noble aim, the Water Ganga Conservation Campaign has transcended being merely a government program; it has become a sacred movement supported by every citizen.
He highlighted the unprecedented work done in water conservation and rejuvenation in Madhya Pradesh, with over 200,000 water structures successfully completed to date. The state is playing a leading role in this noble endeavor across the country.
Under the Water Ganga Conservation Campaign 2026, an ambitious target of 367,777 projects has been set. Of these, 200,844 significant structures have been constructed and renovated, while 151,093 projects are progressing rapidly.
To implement this vast campaign effectively and on time, the state government has approved a budget of ₹10,644.02 crores, of which ₹6,330.81 crores (approximately 59.5%) has already been utilized, reflecting the real pace of development.
To ensure water self-sufficiency in rural and agricultural areas, a record 57,794 farm ponds and 91,838 recharge structures have been constructed and renovated. Additionally, 29,906 water conservation and recharge structures, along with 126 grand ‘Amrit Sarovars,’ have been completed in full.
To strengthen irrigation infrastructure, 1,152 special irrigation projects and 2,721 repair and maintenance works for old water structures have been successfully completed.
