JKSA Appeals for Release of Kashmiri Youth Detained in Saudi Arabia

Jammu, April 6: The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) has reached out to External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, urging immediate intervention in the case of a Kashmiri youth detained in Saudi Arabia. The association expressed serious concerns regarding his safety, legal status, and the lack of communication for an extended period.

In their letter, the association highlighted that Amjad Ali Bhat, a resident of Gund Ibrahim village in the Baramulla district, belongs to the Shia community and was employed as a nurse specialist at Saudi Response Plus Medical in Dammam.

National Coordinator Nasir Khuehami reported that Amjad was allegedly taken into custody by Saudi civil security forces on March 25, 2026. This detention is believed to be linked to a social media post paying tribute to Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ali Hosseini Khamenei. However, neither his family nor his employer has received any formal charges or official information regarding the reasons for his detention.

Khuehami stated that there has been no contact with Amjad since March 25. His family and employer have not received any updates from the relevant Saudi authorities about his situation or legal status. He added that the prolonged lack of communication has caused immense anxiety and distress among family members.

The association emphasized that Amjad has no known history of involvement in any illegal, anti-government, or controversial activities. He is a healthcare worker abroad, dedicated to supporting his family, and has maintained a clean personal and professional record.

The JKSA urged the Ministry of External Affairs to raise this matter at the highest diplomatic level with Saudi officials and seek clarity on the circumstances surrounding his detention. They also requested that the Indian Embassy in Riyadh and the Consulate in Dammam be directed to establish immediate contact with him and ensure his well-being.

Furthermore, the association appealed for the provision of necessary consular access and legal assistance in accordance with international standards and bilateral agreements. They called for efforts to secure his prompt release if no substantial charges are proven against him.

Khuehami expressed hope that the External Affairs Minister would take swift and compassionate action to protect the rights, dignity, and welfare of an Indian citizen abroad. He stated, “We urge the Minister to intervene as soon as possible and ensure that justice, transparency, and humanitarian interests are upheld in this case.”
