Tehran, November 28 – Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has dismissed claims that the country sent any message to the United States through a third party, calling such reports fabricated.
The controversy arose when Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud received a letter from Iran before his recent visit to America, where he met US President Donald Trump. Speculation suggested the letter contained a message intended for Washington.
According to news agency Xinhua, Khamenei rejected all such claims during a televised address on Thursday night. There were rumours that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian had sent a message to the Saudi Crown Prince before his US tour, which was allegedly meant for Washington.
“They are spreading rumours that the Iranian government sent a message to America through a third country, which is completely false,” Khamenei stated.
Media reports had claimed that Pezeshkian’s letter mentioned Iran’s desire to avoid confrontation, deepen regional cooperation, and resolve the nuclear dispute through diplomacy, provided its rights are guaranteed.
During his speech, Khamenei strongly criticised American support for Israel’s attacks and crimes. The Iranian Supreme Leader accused America of promoting conflicts for its strategic and resource advantages.
Iranian officials had earlier clarified that the letter given to Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince was solely about bilateral issues.
Tehran and Washington held talks between April and June this year regarding Iran’s nuclear programme and American sanctions. Five rounds of negotiations took place with Oman’s mediation. A sixth round was expected, but before that could happen, Israel launched sudden attacks on several locations in Iran.
These attacks killed Iranian nuclear scientists and senior commanders. Iran responded with missile and drone strikes.
On June 22, the US military attacked Iranian nuclear facilities in Natanz, Fordo, and Isfahan. Iran retaliated the next day by targeting the American Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar. A ceasefire between Iran and Israel came into effect from June 24.
