According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), this visit comes at a time when relations between the two countries are rapidly strengthening. India and Italy are collaborating on a joint strategic action plan for 2025-2029.
This plan encompasses various sectors, including trade, investment, defense, clean energy, innovation, science and technology, and enhancing people-to-people connections.
The MEA reported that trade between India and Italy reached $16.77 billion in 2025. Additionally, from April 2000 to September 2025, Italy invested a total of $3.66 billion in India.
The Ministry also stated that this visit will further bolster India’s relations with Europe, particularly in trade and investment. Recently, negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and the European Union (EU) were completed, which is expected to enhance economic ties between both parties.
Previously, PM Modi visited Italy in June 2024 to attend the G7 summit.
