Indian Navy’s First Training Squadron Strengthens Ties with Indonesia

Indian Navy and Coast Guard ships recently marked their presence in Indonesia, reinforcing the friendship between the two nations. The visit of the Indian Navy’s First Training Squadron to Belawan Port in Indonesia was a significant step towards enhancing maritime cooperation and bilateral relations.

The Defence Ministry confirmed that the squadron included INS Teer, INS Shardul, and INS Sujata, along with the Indian Coast Guard ship ICGS Sarathi. This three-day visit featured multiple engagements between Indian and Indonesian naval personnel to deepen mutual understanding and collaboration.

During the visit, naval officers from both countries participated in discussions, exchanged operational practices, and took part in cultural programs and sports activities. These interactions helped strengthen camaraderie and foster trust between the maritime forces.

Senior officer Captain Tijo K. Joseph led the Indian training squadron and held meetings with senior Indonesian naval officials. The talks focused on maritime security, cooperation, and regional interests. A special welcome ceremony was held in Indonesia, attended by senior naval officers and representatives from the Indian Embassy, underscoring the spirit of mutual respect and partnership.

Indian trainee officers were given an opportunity to observe Indonesian naval facilities closely, enhancing their practical knowledge of Indonesian maritime operations. Joint sports events and yoga sessions further enhanced teamwork and friendship. Additionally, Indian ships were opened to Indonesian schoolchildren, who showed great enthusiasm, making the visit memorable and inspiring for young students.

Overall, this visit aligns with India’s Act East Policy and maritime vision, promoting peace and cooperation in the region. It not only strengthened India-Indonesia relations but also conveyed a positive message of stability and partnership across the maritime domain.
