New Delhi, May 16: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in the Netherlands on Friday, where he received a grand welcome. On Saturday, he shared glimpses of the spectacular reception organized by the Indian community in the Netherlands.

PM Modi took to social media platform X to express, “The welcome from the Indian community in the Netherlands was magnificent. The celebration featured performances of Kathak, Odissi, Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, and Mohiniyattam, along with a Garba performance.”

In another post, he stated, “I am sharing more glimpses of the warm welcome from the Indian community in the Netherlands.”

On Saturday, PM Modi is scheduled to engage in bilateral talks with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte. Additionally, he will meet King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima as part of his official visit.

During his stay, the Prime Minister is also expected to address the Indian community and engage with prominent business leaders in the Netherlands. PM Modi will remain in the Netherlands until May 17. This marks his second visit to the country, having previously visited in 2017. The current trip comes at a crucial juncture for India-Netherlands relations, with expectations for enhanced strategic cooperation between the two nations.

PM Modi arrived in the Netherlands as part of a diplomatic tour aimed at strengthening India’s strategic, economic, and technological partnerships across Europe.

Announcing the visit, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal posted on social media platform X, “Good day, Netherlands! PM Modi has arrived. This visit will further strengthen various partnerships between India and the Netherlands and provide an opportunity to connect with the largest Indian community in Europe.”

During a special briefing ahead of the visit, Siby George, Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs, noted, “In recent years, our partnership has deepened in traditional areas of trade and investment, as well as essential sectors like water, agriculture, and health. Moreover, collaboration has expanded in strategic areas such as technology, innovation, defense, security, semiconductors, renewable energy, education, and maritime sectors.”

People-to-people connections remain a vital aspect of India-Netherlands relations. Over 90,000 non-resident Indians and people of Indian origin reside in the Netherlands, along with more than 200,000 members of the Surinamese Hindustani community. Additionally, approximately 3,500 Indian students are pursuing higher education across various universities in the country.
