India to Invest ₹10 Lakh Crore in Rural Development Over Next Decade

Agartala, February 11: Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced on Wednesday that under the Developed India-Employment and Livelihood Mission (Rural), ₹10 lakh crore will be invested in rural India over the next ten years.

Speaking at a conference in Agartala, the capital of Tripura, Chouhan stated that this initiative provides a comprehensive roadmap for creating a developed India, designed to meet the interests of all societal segments.

Chouhan highlighted that the Developed India-G Ram Ji scheme guarantees 125 days of employment, an increase from the previous guarantee of 100 days.

He mentioned that ₹1,51,282 crore has been allocated for the rural program, with an additional ₹55,000 crore to be provided through the Finance Commission, bringing the total allocation over five years to over ₹2 lakh crore.

Furthermore, Chouhan reiterated that ₹10 lakh crore will be spent in rural areas under the Developed India-G Ram Ji scheme over the next five years.

With 2.86 crore gram panchayats across the country, each panchayat will receive between ₹1.50 crore and ₹2.75 crore within this scheme over five years.

In comparison to previous governments, he noted that the UPA government spent ₹2.13 lakh crore on rural job work over ten years, whereas the NDA government has invested ₹8.54 lakh crore in the last decade.

The Developed India-G Ram Ji scheme includes provisions for unemployment benefits if jobs are not available after requesting work. Employees will also be entitled to receive payments with interest in case of delays.

During the event, the Union Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation for 179 rural development projects in Tripura, involving a total investment of ₹546.79 crore.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, Panchayat Minister Kishore Barman, and Rural Development Department Secretary Abhishek Singh were among the attendees who addressed the gathering.
