Devotees Flock to Baba Mahakal Temple Amidst Chanting and Rituals

Ujjain, May 25: On the auspicious occasion of the Shukla Navami in the month of Jyeshtha, a massive influx of devotees gathered at the world-renowned Baba Mahakaleshwar Temple. The entire temple complex resonated with the chants of Shiva devotees.

Due to it being Monday, the number of devotees surged. Pilgrims from across the country and abroad began lining up late Sunday night to seek blessings from Baba Mahakal. Despite waiting in line throughout the night, the enthusiasm of the devotees remained undiminished. Everyone was eager for a glimpse of their revered deity.

As per tradition, the temple doors were opened after receiving permission from Veerabhadra. The excitement among the devotees present was palpable. The temple echoed with the chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal.” Amidst the sea of devotees, the sounds of bells, conch shells, and mantras filled the air.

Following this, the Mahanirvani Akhara performed the water offering (Jalabhishek) to Baba, followed by a ceremonial bath with Panchamrit. After the bath, Baba Mahakal was adorned in a captivating and divine manner.

On this Monday, Baba Mahakal was decorated with bhang, sandalwood, and dry fruits. Subsequently, the saints of the Mahanirvani Akhara applied ash to Baba, performing the aarti while devotees experienced the divine presence of Mahakal in both formless and manifested forms.

The significance of the Bhasma Aarti is considered extremely special. It involves the use of ashes from various trees such as Gohari, Peepal, Palash, Shami, and Bel. It is believed that during this time, Lord Mahakal exists in a formless state. This tradition dates back to when Lord Shiva adorned himself with the ashes after defeating the demon Dushan.
