
Mathura, May 25: A police encounter with animal smugglers occurred in the Jait police station area of Mathura on Monday. During the exchange of gunfire, three smugglers were injured by police bullets. The injured suspects have been admitted to a hospital for treatment. Authorities recovered a significant amount of cash and illegal firearms from the suspects.
According to reports, the Jait police were checking suspicious vehicles and individuals in the area when they encountered a gang of animal thieves. Upon seeing the police, the criminals attempted to flee and opened fire on the police team. In self-defense, the police returned fire, injuring three of the suspects in the legs. The police quickly apprehended all three at the scene. A total of ₹1.40 lakh in cash, three pistols, and a large quantity of ammunition were seized from the suspects.
The Jait police confirmed that the injured suspects were immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Investigations are underway to identify other members of the gang and their criminal history. Legal action is being pursued in this case.
Earlier, on May 20, police in Govindnagar arrested a member of a land gang during an encounter, resulting in a gunshot wound to the suspect’s leg. The injured individual received treatment at a hospital. The suspect has eight cases registered against him across various police stations. He had allegedly attacked a person with accomplices late on Monday night. Keshavdev, a resident of Katra in Govindnagar, reported that he and his friend Amit were driving home when motorcyclists stopped their car near an ice cream factory on the 80-foot road, leading to an altercation and gunfire.
