Franklin Reflects on SRHs Setback Against LSG: Pitch Caught Us Off Guard

Hyderabad, April 7: The pitch at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium has typically favored high scores. However, on Sunday, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) faced challenges, ultimately losing to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by five wickets.

SRH assistant coach James Franklin expressed that the team was unprepared for the pitch’s behavior. After the match, he stated, “The pitch definitely caught us off guard, which was disappointing. You could see that in some of our dismissals. LSG bowled exceptionally well during the Power-play, not allowing us many scoring opportunities.”

Sunrisers struggled against LSG’s disciplined bowling attack, finishing at 156/9 after a shaky start of 35/4 in the first 10 overs. LSG successfully chased down the target with just one ball remaining.

Franklin acknowledged the contributions of Nitish Kumar Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen, who provided the bowlers with a target. “Our batters struggled with the pitch’s pace. Once the ball hit the surface, it didn’t come onto the bat well. Nitish and Klaasen managed to score more freely towards the end because they spent time at the crease. With the field spread, they could rotate the strike effectively,” he noted.

On the other hand, LSG’s pace spearhead Mohammed Shami highlighted the team’s efforts to contain the SRH batters. “We knew the Sunrisers batters tend to attack, so our strategy was to limit their scoring opportunities with slower deliveries and variations. Executing our plans effectively yielded results, and I’m pleased with our performance,” said Shami, who was named Player of the Match for his outstanding bowling figures of 2/9.

Shami also bowled an impressive 18 dot balls in his four-over spell, effectively restricting the SRH batters. “I worked hard with the new ball and understood what to bowl in these conditions. It requires significant effort. Knowing the conditions well allowed us to prepare accordingly,” he explained.

He credited his past experience with LSG’s bowling coach Bharat Arun, stating, “We had worked together when he was with the Indian team, so we knew each other well. Familiarity with the support staff makes adjustment easier. Joining the Lucknow team felt like coming home.”
