Gujarat Launches International Music Training for 1,692 Students

Ahmedabad, May 15: A groundbreaking initiative is set to transform music education in Ahmedabad. Following a memorandum of understanding between the Municipal Primary Education Committee and Yamaha Music India Private Limited, structured international-level music training will be introduced for fifth-grade students in schools operated by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). This move marks a significant step towards integrating co-curricular education into the city’s public education system.

Under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner Banchanidhi Pani, this agreement aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. It focuses on holistic development, enjoyable learning, and skill-based education, aiming to reduce academic pressure on students.

The initiative will be implemented as a two-year pilot project from the 2026-27 to 2027-28 academic years. During this pilot program, 1,692 fifth-grade students from 24 municipal schools will receive structured music training.

In the initial phase, 48 teachers from these schools will undergo training. Before the program’s classroom implementation begins, specialized training will be conducted in July by experts from Yamaha Music India Private Limited.

After the training program, each of the 1,692 participating students will receive a recorder instrument and a set of music books free of charge. Additionally, each of the 24 schools involved in this initiative will be allocated a keyboard for practical teaching sessions.

To ensure regular training and skill development, a dedicated music session will be included in the weekly timetable of the selected schools. Officials stated that the aim of this initiative is to provide students with a structured experience in music education and enable them to explore future career opportunities in this field based on their interests and abilities.

Upon completion of the pilot phase, the program will be reviewed, and based on the results, consideration will be given to expanding it to other municipal schools. On this occasion, Sakai, Managing Director of Yamaha Music India, praised the efforts to strengthen foundational education in Gujarat and promote skill development, acknowledging the municipal school board’s focus on the overall development of students.
