Mumbai, May 15: The Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure, led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, granted administrative approval on Thursday for four access-controlled expressway projects in Vidarbha. These projects span a total of 547 kilometers and aim to connect Maharashtra’s eastern and western borders through a high-speed corridor.
Officials have been instructed to ensure rapid progress and timely completion of these initiatives. The projects include the Nagpur-Gondia Expressway, Bhandara-Gadchiroli Expressway, Nagpur-Chandrapur Expressway, and the greenfield road from Navegaon More to Konsari and Surjagadh.
CM Fadnavis emphasized the need for swift action on the next steps for these projects, which serve as a crucial link between Maharashtra’s eastern and western regions and represent a significant step in the development of Vidarbha. He also directed that the Navegaon More-Surjagadh route, vital for mineral transportation, should be connected to the Prosperity Highway.
Additionally, he instructed officials to study a proposed tunnel road connecting Western Maharashtra to the Konkan region and prepare a detailed presentation on the project.
“By prioritizing excellent infrastructure, the state is moving toward a future defined by integrated, high-speed, and inclusive development,” he stated.
In a related development, CM Fadnavis presided over the signing and exchange of an agreement between the Maharashtra government (City and Industrial Development Corporation) and the Africa India Economic Foundation. This agreement will facilitate the establishment of a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for the development of the ‘Africa India International Development Zone’ in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai.
Key infrastructure and facilities will include the AIBC Tower, which will house offices for stakeholders from 54 African countries and India, along with convention and conference facilities, exhibition halls, cultural and heritage centers, incubation and research centers, and MSME and entrepreneurship development facilities for Africa-India trade, as well as hospitality infrastructure and related amenities.
Meanwhile, CM Fadnavis also oversaw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Maharashtra government (Department of Industries) and AM Intelligence Labs Private Limited for the development of a 500-megawatt integrated green data center park and artificial intelligence computing hub in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
According to the Chief Minister’s office, this proposed investment amounts to ₹1.14 lakh crore and is expected to create 800 jobs. The project will be entirely powered by renewable energy and will significantly contribute to artificial intelligence model training, data processing, and cloud-based AI services. Furthermore, it will promote investment, employment, technological advancement, and the green energy sector in the state.
This initiative will play a pivotal role in establishing Maharashtra as the capital of artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure in India.
