Dharamshala, May 14: The Punjab Kings (PBKS) have etched their name in the annals of Indian Premier League (IPL) history. They have become the only team to score double centuries eight times across two different seasons. This remarkable feat was also achieved by PBKS in the 2025 season.
In IPL history, only three teams have managed to reach the 200-run mark eight times in a single season. The Gujarat Titans accomplished this in IPL 2025, while the Sunrisers Hyderabad matched the record in IPL 2026.
On Thursday at the HPCA Stadium, the Punjab Kings scored 200 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted 20 overs. The opening pair of Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh provided a strong start, putting together a partnership of 50 runs in just 33 balls.
Priyansh scored 22 runs off 17 balls, hitting four boundaries before being dismissed. Following his departure, Prabhsimran, along with Cooper Connolly, added 57 runs for the second wicket in 35 balls, taking the team’s total to 107. However, the fall of Prabhsimran, who scored 57 runs off 32 balls, triggered a collapse.
Ajmatullah Omarzai then played a quick innings, scoring 38 runs off 17 balls with four sixes and two fours. Javier Bartlett (not out on 18) and Vishnu Vinod (not out on 15) contributed significantly, helping the team reach a total of 200/8.
For the Mumbai Indians, Shardul Thakur was the standout bowler, claiming four wickets for 39 runs, while Deepak Chahar took two wickets. Corbin Bosch and Raj Bawa each added one wicket to their tally.
With this victory, the Punjab Kings aim to secure the third spot on the points table. Currently, they are fourth with 13 points from six wins out of 11 matches. In contrast, the Mumbai Indians, positioned ninth, have lost eight out of their 11 matches.
