Amaravati, May 15: In light of ongoing conflicts in West Asia, the Andhra Pradesh government is assessing the possibility of allowing government offices to implement a work-from-home policy for two days a week. This evaluation is part of cost-cutting measures aimed at reducing expenses.
During a cabinet meeting, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu instructed officials to explore this work-from-home option for certain departments within the government. The Chief Minister provided specific directives regarding these cost-cutting measures, especially in response to the current situation in West Asia and Prime Minister Modi’s call for austerity.
Information and Public Relations Minister Kolusu Parthasarathi informed the media about the cabinet’s decisions. Under the initiative “My Country, My Responsibility,” public representatives and officials will voluntarily reduce the number of vehicles in their convoys, conduct meetings online, and observe “No Vehicle Friday” each week.
The Chief Minister urged the public to participate in this initiative and adopt voluntary measures for frugality. The cabinet concluded that, given the current geopolitical tensions, reducing fuel consumption, conserving foreign exchange reserves, promoting the export of agricultural products grown by farmers, and minimizing imports of oil, gas, and urea would be beneficial.
It was also noted that the ongoing conflict could potentially impact the export of items such as bananas, grains, and various agricultural and horticultural crops. Therefore, the minister emphasized that public representatives and officials should strictly adhere to frugality measures to set an example for the public.
Plans are in place to implement various measures across each government department, such as maintaining a minimum fuel consumption limit for government vehicles and mandating the purchase of only electric vehicles for new acquisitions by the government.
A comprehensive awareness campaign will be launched to inform the public about these initiatives.
