Mumbai, May 15: Political activity is heating up in Maharashtra following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for energy conservation. In response to the decision by the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister to reduce the number of vehicles in their convoy and adopt alternative transportation, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has spoken out. He stated that this initiative is taken in the interest of the nation and addressed the criticisms from the opposition.
Shinde emphasized that the Prime Minister’s call for energy conservation is due to serious circumstances. The public has accepted this appeal just as they did during the COVID-19 pandemic. He noted that the Prime Minister prioritizes the interests of the country and the nation.
“I am also traveling in an electric car. Only essential vehicles are included in the convoy. The Chief Minister is traveling by motorcycle. Discussions on energy conservation have taken place in meetings, and online meetings are also being considered. The government is taking the appeal to save petrol and diesel seriously. We are implementing the Prime Minister’s appeal, which will benefit the government,” Shinde stated.
Regarding the opposition’s comments on the reduction of the convoy and the Chief Minister’s motorcycle travel, he remarked that the opposition lacks substantial issues to address and resorts to mockery instead. He recalled that during the pandemic, when Prime Minister Modi made similar appeals, the opposition also chose to ridicule them. The Prime Minister consistently advocates for “Nation First,” which the opposition finds amusing.
Shinde asserted that the public teaches a lesson to those who make harsh comments about the Prime Minister. He questioned the current whereabouts of the Congress party, stating that those who criticize the Prime Minister will surely face consequences from the public.
Earlier, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had mentioned that given the current situation in the country, Prime Minister Modi has advised everyone to exercise necessary precautions. In this context, we should all strive to reduce the consumption of petrol, diesel, and other resources as much as possible.
He added that they have already reduced the size of their convoy and made efforts to minimize unnecessary usage. “I also came here on a motorcycle to support this decision, so the message can reach as many people as possible,” he concluded.
