
New Delhi, May 4: The initial trends for the assembly election results in four states and one union territory will be revealed in just a few hours. It will soon be clear who will hold power in these regions.
Voting took place in Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal in April. In Assam, Kerala, and Puducherry, voting occurred in a single phase on April 9. Tamil Nadu also completed its voting in one phase on April 23.
In West Bengal, voting for all assembly seats was conducted in two phases on April 23 and April 29. Results for 293 of the 294 seats will be announced on Monday, as the Election Commission has decided to hold re-elections for the Falta seat. Voting for this seat will take place on May 21, with results expected on May 24.
To form a government in the 294-seat West Bengal assembly, a majority of 148 seats is required. Similarly, the majority mark is 64 for the 126-seat Assam assembly, 71 for the 140-seat Kerala assembly, 118 for the 234-seat Tamil Nadu assembly, and 16 for the 30-seat Puducherry assembly.
Record voter turnout has been reported in these elections. Assam saw a turnout of 85.38%, Kerala recorded 78%, Tamil Nadu had 85.1%, Puducherry achieved 89.08%, and West Bengal reported an impressive 92.47%.
Security measures have been tightened at counting centers ahead of the vote counting. All counting centers in West Bengal have been designated as high-security zones, with a significant deployment of central forces to maintain peace and order.
