Ujjain, March 10: The Mahakaleshwar Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, is renowned for its morning Bhasma Aarti, which attracts numerous devotees daily. On Tuesday, during the Saptami Tithi of the Krishna Paksha in Chaitra month, a special adornment of Lord Mahakal took place.
During the morning Bhasma Aarti, long queues of devotees filled the temple premises. Pilgrims from across the country and abroad eagerly awaited the grand decoration of Baba Mahakal. The entire temple resonated with chants of “Jai Mahakal,” reflecting the devotion and faith visible on the faces of the worshippers.
The Bhasma Aarti at Mahakaleshwar Temple is known for its unique experience, where the deity is bathed in sacred ash, creating a divine atmosphere. This ritual is performed by the Mahanirvani Akhara, allowing devotees to witness the transformation of the formless into a tangible form. Following the Bhasma Aarti, the deity was also bathed with water, worshipped with Panchamrit, and given a special bath with sacred ash.
Located in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, the Bhasma Aarti included a ritual bathing of Lord Mahakal, worship with Panchamrit—a mixture of pure milk, fresh yogurt, ghee, sugar, honey, and various fruit juices—and a grand offering of sacred ash. After the abhishekam, the Bhasma Aarti was performed, where sacred ash was offered to Baba, followed by the Aarti ceremony.
Subsequently, Baba was adorned with sandalwood, a moon was placed on his forehead, and he was presented with a new crown along with a garland of flowers. Devotees were visibly delighted by the extraordinary adornment of Baba. Each day, the deity is adorned in unique ways, drawing pilgrims from far and wide to participate in this sacred ritual.
