Bengaluru, June 2: The Karnataka State Cyber Command has launched one of the largest operations against online betting in India, in coordination with the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C). This initiative targets a vast network of illegal betting websites, mobile applications, and fraudulent betting URLs.
According to a statement released by the Karnataka State Cyber Command on Monday, approximately 8,750 betting-related digital platforms were targeted. This includes websites, mobile apps, mirror domains, sub-domains, and cloned URLs, all allegedly facilitating illegal online betting activities.
Based on reliable intelligence, specialized cyber teams conducted coordinated online investigations and identified organized groups operating illegal cricket betting platforms. The investigation revealed that these operators were using multiple mirror domains and cloned websites to evade capture and continue their activities.
The Cyber Command reported that these illegal betting networks have allegedly caused significant financial losses, data leaks, mental distress, and debt-related issues for thousands of citizens across the country. Authorities noted that many vulnerable individuals have reportedly lost their life savings through credit-based betting systems operated by these gangs.
Officials stated that this extensive operation has disrupted a large portion of the illegal online betting mechanism, helping to prevent further financial harm to the public.
Pranab Mohanty, Director General of the Cyber Command, emphasized the commitment of the Karnataka State Cyber Command to protect citizens from cyber-enabled crimes and ensure a secure digital environment. He also expressed gratitude to the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) and the cyber teams involved for their collaboration and efforts in executing this large-scale operation.
