Strengthening Ties: Indian and South African Officials Discuss Strategic Partnership

New Delhi, June 1: On Monday, India’s Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh, met with South Africa’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Anna Morka, to discuss the ongoing strategic partnership between India and South Africa.

Following their meeting, Singh expressed his pleasure in connecting with Morka on social media. The discussions focused on enhancing the strategic partnership and bilateral relations between the two nations.

Morka arrived in India on Friday, accompanying South African Deputy President Paul Mashatile. The delegation also includes several senior ministers, such as Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi, Minister of Small Business Development Stella Ndabeni, Minister of State for Science and Innovation Nomalungelo Gina, and Minister of State for Communications and Digital Technologies Mondli Gungubele.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the last official visit by a South African head of state to India occurred in 2019 when President Cyril Ramaphosa was the chief guest at India’s Republic Day celebrations.

Deputy President Mashatile is the second South African deputy president to visit India. He is scheduled to meet with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on June 2 and will also engage with President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan on the same day.

The South African presidency stated that the purpose of this visit is to strengthen trade and investment relations with India. A roundtable meeting with Indian business leaders and investors is also planned.

After completing his engagements in New Delhi, Deputy President Mashatile will travel to Hyderabad.

According to South Africa’s statement, the relationship between India and South Africa is longstanding, built on shared history, cultural ties, and a mutual vision for the development of the Global South. Both countries are committed to promoting non-alignment and South-South cooperation.
