Bengaluru, June 2: B.N. Madhukar, a childhood friend of Karnataka’s future Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, expressed his happiness over Shivakumar’s rise to the state’s highest political office. He reminisced about their long-standing friendship that dates back to their school days.
Madhukar shared that he has known the Congress leader since 1969 and described him as someone who remains unchanged despite his political success. “It is truly a joy to see him reach this milestone. I have been his friend since childhood, and he is still the same person,” Madhukar stated.
Recalling Shivakumar’s early political ambitions, he noted that Shivakumar decided to enter politics while still in school. “By sixth or seventh grade, he made it clear that he wanted to pursue a political career. We saw him as an enthusiastic member of the NSUI, actively participating in various movements and student initiatives,” Madhukar said.
Madhukar also mentioned that Shivakumar was a talented athlete, and many of their friends hoped he would pursue a career in sports. “He was excellent in sports, and we wanted him to build a career in that field. However, his interest in politics was always strong, and he continued on that path,” he added.
Despite spending decades in public life, Madhukar emphasized that Shivakumar has maintained his personal relationships. “Today, he is a senior politician, so naturally, some things may have changed over time. But for us, he is still the same DK Shivakumar, just a phone call away. If he is busy, he always calls back. I continue to meet him regularly,” Madhukar noted.
He further mentioned that while he has many childhood memories and stories, he prefers not to share them publicly, considering Shivakumar’s current status. “I have many amusing anecdotes to tell, but given what he has achieved today, I don’t think it’s appropriate to recount those events,” he concluded.
