Mumbai, June 2: The Andaman and Nicobar administration is making significant strides to establish the archipelago as a premier global scuba diving destination.
To this end, a presentation was made before Lieutenant Governor Admiral D.K. Joshi (Retd.) focusing on the exploration of new diving sites and underwater attractions in the islands.
An official reported that discussions included the development of artificial reefs, shipwreck dives, and marine-themed establishments at various locations such as North Bay, Swaraj Island, Shaheed Island, Long Island, and Aves Island. This initiative aims to promote sustainable tourism, preserve natural reefs, and restore coral ecosystems, positioning the Andaman and Nicobar Islands prominently on the global diving map.
In addition to administrative officials, representatives from local diving institutions also attended the meeting.
The crystal-clear turquoise waters, healthy coral reefs, diverse marine life, and shipwrecks make the Andaman Islands a dream destination for scuba diving enthusiasts.
Diving institutions located on the islands offer a range of experiences, from relaxing reef dives to thrilling volcanic wall dives. Divers can witness manta rays, reef sharks, turtles, and schools of colorful fish.
Importantly, one does not need to be an expert diver to experience the underwater life in the Andaman Islands. After basic training, first-time divers can explore the depths under the guidance of professionals.
Another official highlighted that popular diving spots include Elephant Beach and The Wall in Havelock, the Coral Garden at Neil Island, and the remote underwater volcano at Barron Island. With excellent visibility, warm waters, and rich biodiversity, the Andaman Islands provide a unique and stunning destination for divers seeking to explore less-traveled parts of the world.
He emphasized that there is no need for citizens to travel abroad for scuba diving experiences. Instead, efforts are underway to attract more international tourists to boost the local economy.
