Berlin, June 2: According to Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, a member of Bayern Munich’s supervisory board, Paris Saint-Germain’s UEFA Champions League victory in 2026 should serve as a model for other top clubs in Europe. Rummenigge emphasized that PSG’s success demonstrates how long-term planning, effective team building, and a clear club strategy can lead to significant achievements in European football.
The 70-year-old Rummenigge praised the French team’s accomplishment, calling their final match against Arsenal a “well-deserved victory.” Paris won the match 4-3 in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw.
In an interview with German media on Sunday, Rummenigge stated, “Paris succeeded when they began to operate as a ‘true team’ rather than just gathering expensive star players.”
He noted that PSG could be a role model for Bayern. He added, “As we have seen, it is not necessary to buy the most expensive players for success; wisely chosen players can also make a difference.”
The former German international remarked, “Paris’s story teaches us that we should not simply mimic certain clubs from the Premier League or La Liga.”
According to Rummenigge, under coach Luis Enrique, PSG played the most attractive football in the Champions League. After watching the final in Budapest, he noted that Paris proved that a “balanced team” is the key to success by repeating their victory from the previous season. He further stated that PSG’s achievements are a significant reason why other major clubs should learn from their strategy. He also suggested that moving forward with coach Vincent Kompany would be beneficial for Bayern.
