Waris Pathan Questions Maharashtras Ladki Bahin Yojana, Alleges Vote-Buying Tactics

Mumbai, June 2: Waris Pathan, the national spokesperson for AIMIM, has raised concerns regarding the Maharashtra government’s ‘Ladki Bahin Yojana’. He questioned how approximately 8 million women, who were previously deemed eligible for the scheme, were suddenly declared ineligible. Pathan accused the government of distributing money to gain votes ahead of elections.

Pathan stated, “The first question is how did 8 million women, who were eligible until now, suddenly become ineligible in just a year and a half? Before the elections, everyone was eligible. During the Maharashtra elections, the government openly distributed public funds under the ‘Ladki Bahin Yojana’ and transferred money into women’s accounts. They even claimed that the state treasury was empty. The government showcased everything very openly during the elections to secure votes.”

He further questioned what could have changed in such a short time that led to the disqualification of so many individuals. Pathan suggested that the entire process lacks transparency and appears to be politically motivated. He emphasized that if a woman was previously eligible and received benefits from the government, it raises questions as to why she was later declared ineligible. He called for an investigation into the officials or systems responsible for this decision.

Pathan argued that this issue is not just administrative but also raises ethical concerns, as it directly affects the sentiments of the general public, particularly women. He insisted that the government must clarify the criteria for eligibility and the basis for any subsequent changes. According to him, public funds are taxpayer money and should not be used for electoral gains. He demanded that the complete list and processes be made public to ensure transparency.

He likened this situation to a betrayal of women, stating that they were initially supported by the scheme only to be excluded later. He condemned this action and called for a fair investigation into the matter, holding accountable those who determined eligibility or later revoked it.

During the discussion, Pathan also condemned the alleged attack on TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee in West Bengal. He stated that regardless of political differences or ideological conflicts, attacking any elected representative is entirely wrong. He stressed that democracy allows for dissent and debate, but there should be no room for violence. An attack on an MP raises serious questions about law and order. He denounced the incident, asserting that such acts cannot be justified under any circumstances.

Pathan warned that if such incidents increase, it poses a threat to the democratic framework of the country. He reiterated that the law should be equal for everyone, and violence must not be tolerated, regardless of which party is in power. He added that governments may come and go, but democracy and law enforcement should remain constant. If such an incident occurs involving a sitting MP, it is a serious matter that requires an impartial investigation.
