New Delhi, April 27: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta met with Lieutenant Governor T.S. Sandhu on Monday, ahead of the special assembly session scheduled for April 28. This session will focus on passing the Nari Shakti Vandan Act and other legislative matters.
The Chief Minister’s office announced the meeting on the social media platform X, confirming that Gupta engaged with Sandhu at the Raj Niwas.
In addition to presenting copies of the Delhi government’s financial and appropriation accounts, the agenda for the session includes a government proposal (under Rule 90) regarding the implementation of the Nari Shakti Vandan Act.
There are expectations that the assembly will discuss women’s reservation, with a proposal likely to be passed condemning the recent failure of the amendment bill in the Lok Sabha, as criticized by Congress and other Indian coalition parties earlier this month.
Previously, Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta issued a notification calling for the fifth session of the eighth assembly to convene on Sunday, following approval from Sandhu.
In a related development, Speaker Gupta announced that the Lieutenant Governor has immediately adjourned the fourth session of the eighth assembly, marking the official end of the long session and paving the way for a smooth transition into the new session.
To facilitate upcoming proceedings, the Delhi Assembly Secretariat has finalized all necessary arrangements to ensure smooth and uninterrupted operations. In light of recent bomb threats, strict security measures and extensive safety protocols have been established at the old secretariat to protect members and staff during the session.
