Leaders Pay Tribute to Raja Ram Mohan Roy on His Birth Anniversary

New Delhi, May 22: The birth anniversary of social reformer and founder of the Brahmo Samaj, Raja Ram Mohan Roy, is being celebrated today. On this occasion, several leaders, including Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, paid their respects to Roy.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla hailed Raja Ram Mohan Roy as a great pioneer of the Indian Renaissance and a prominent social reformer. He expressed his admiration on the social media platform ‘X’, stating, “Raja Ram Mohan Roy provided new consciousness to Indian society by using truth, reason, education, and a scientific approach as the foundation for social change. He advocated for women’s education, women’s rights, and social equality, conveying the message that true progress for any nation is only possible when every segment of society receives respect and opportunity.”

He further added, “Raja Ram Mohan Roy envisioned a balanced India that harmonized Indian culture with modern ideas, filled with rationality, progressiveness, and human values. His thoughts ignited the spirit of renaissance in Indian society, which later guided social and national movements in new directions.”

On this occasion, Union Home Minister Amit Shah posted, “On the birth anniversary of Raja Ram Mohan Roy, the pioneer of the Indian Renaissance, I pay my deepest respects. Raja Ram Mohan Roy established the Brahmo Samaj to raise awareness against social evils, superstitions, and discrimination. His contributions to education, social reform, and public administration have also strengthened the foundation of modern India. His thoughts and ideals will continue to illuminate the path of nation-building and social awakening.”

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also paid tribute to Raja Ram Mohan Roy, stating, “Raja Ram Mohan Roy led society from superstition to reason and from social evils to progressive consciousness. His contributions to the spread of modern education will always inspire the nation.”

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also honored Raja Ram Mohan Roy, writing in a post on ‘X’, “By raising his voice against social evils like the practice of Sati and child marriage, he showed society a new path to progress. His thoughts and efforts for social reform will always inspire us to build a strong and equitable society.”

Meanwhile, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini posted, “On the birth anniversary of Raja Ram Mohan Roy, the pioneer of the Indian Renaissance and a great social reformer, I pay my deepest respects. His contributions to liberating society from conservative thinking and social evils, empowering women’s rights and dignity, and building a progressive India will always be remembered.”
