TMC MLA Javed Khan Granted Bail After Surrendering in Tiljala Violence Case

Kolkata, May 22: Trinamool Congress MLA Javed Khan surrendered in an Alipore court on Thursday. This was in connection with unrest that occurred on the day the West Bengal assembly election results were announced in Tiljala.

An FIR was filed against Javed Khan and ten others. According to sources, the MLA surrendered before the court regarding this case.

The police reported that unrest erupted in Tiljala on May 4, following the announcement of election results. This area falls within Javed Khan’s assembly constituency, Kasba.

Subsequently, an FIR was registered against Javed Khan and the ten others. The remaining accused had already surrendered to the court and are currently out on bail.

On Thursday, Javed Khan appeared before the additional chief judicial magistrate’s court in Kolkata and was granted bail on a personal bond.

Meanwhile, Mala Roy, a Trinamool Congress MP from the Kolkata South constituency, also surrendered in court concerning a case filed under the Arms Act. A case was registered against her and her son, Nirban Roy, under this act.

Mala Roy surrendered in court and applied for bail. The court granted bail to both on a bond of ₹1,500.

It was alleged that on the evening of the election results announcement, Mala Roy brandished a weapon to intimidate BJP workers. However, the Trinamool Congress MP denied these allegations, claiming she was falsely implicated in the case.

Following the election results, police have been active in taking action against anti-social elements and have also initiated proceedings against Trinamool Congress leaders facing allegations of law violations.
