Shimla, May 22: The weather in Himachal Pradesh has unexpectedly shifted, leaving both residents and tourists feeling the heat. Traditionally known for its cool climate, Shimla is experiencing higher temperatures than usual this season.
Local resident Aruna Sharma shared her concerns, stating that she has lived in Shimla her entire life and regularly visits Lakkad Bazaar with her son. “It never used to be this hot, but now the heat is increasing. We carry glucose water and lemonade to stay cool, and we even need to bring an umbrella. I’ve never experienced such heat in Shimla before. In the last 12 years, I haven’t felt this kind of warmth. The children are also getting a bit irritable due to the heat,” she explained.
Tourist Jignesh Kumar, visiting from Gujarat with his family for three days, noted the change in weather. “After visiting Amritsar, Khajjiar, and Dalhousie, we arrived in Shimla. The weather in Manali was quite cool, but we felt a bit of warmth here. However, we are used to temperatures of 40 to 45 degrees back home, so it’s not too bothersome. If it rains, it would enhance our experience even more,” he said.
Another tourist, Pandit Bansode from Maharashtra, who is traveling with a group of around 70 people, commented on the unexpected warmth. “We expected it to be cold here, but it feels quite hot and the sun is intense. I have been in the tourism industry for 22 years, and in the past, we would wear sweaters and jackets in Solan. That’s no longer the case,” he remarked.
He further noted that the changing weather in Himachal could be attributed to global warming. “Deforestation and development are altering the landscape, but progress should come with the preservation of nature,” he added.
