Surat, May 22: The Gujarat State Tribal Education Society, under the state’s Tribal Development Department, is operating a military school in Wadi village, Umarpada taluka, Surat. This initiative is giving tribal children the opportunity to realize their dreams. Some aspire to become officers, while others aim to compete in the Olympics.
The school provides education for Scheduled Tribe children from grades 6 to 12. Alongside academics, there is a strong emphasis on discipline, sports, and physical education. This focus has inspired students to dream of becoming Army officers and winning medals at the Olympics.
Divyaben Pangi, a student, shared, “Since joining this school, I have become more disciplined. We are motivated not only in our studies but also about our future goals. I want to become an Army officer.”
Another student, Neel Gamit, mentioned, “We have a one-hour parade where we learn about discipline, mirroring the Army’s parade structure. We practice everything from standing at attention to physical training and flag marching.”
Principal Jaydeep Singh Rathore stated that the military school caters to grades 6 through 12, with many students residing in hostels. The state government has invested approximately 50 crore rupees to build a modern campus spanning 20 acres.
Retired Subedar Shyam Singh Vasava explained, “We have a drill parade ground. We provide all the necessary facilities to teach the children and offer them a great opportunity to enter the defense sector through physical training.”
Currently, 372 tribal students are enrolled at the military school, which offers free education, meals, and accommodation. The state government allocates an annual grant of 80,000 rupees for each student. The expansive campus features modern facilities, including smart classrooms, a mess, a sports complex with a 400-meter track, a library, and specialized labs for chemistry, physics, biology, and computer science.
To support the physical and mental development of the students, various activities are organized. Additionally, retired Army officers provide specialized training to prepare students for entry into the Army.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the Gujarat government is committed to enhancing the future of youth in tribal areas. This military school in Surat plays a crucial role in advancing tribal children in sports and preparing them to serve the nation as military officers.
